Invited by Good to Great Schools, Topology tutors spent two days with the instrumental music students and choir at Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy Hopevale Campus (CYAAA) in February 2025. Most of the students in the instrumental program had only had a handful of lessons on their instruments. Face to face lessons in remote communities like Hopevale are rare and they approached this opportunity with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Topology tutors guided students through musical skill-building, ensemble playing and creative composition activities. The workshops encouraged the students to explore their own musical ideas, develop confidence and experience the joy of making music together.
By the end of the two days, the students had collaboratively created and rehearsed an original piece of music which was proudly performed for the whole school. This program nurtured their emerging musicianship and showcased a strong sense of community and achievement fostered during the workshops.
