OUR TOP UP PROGRAM THRIVES

2020 marks a very successful year for our award-winning Top Up Music Education Program. In response to a restrictive pandemic, we launched Top Up Online – a digital platform to deliver music workshops to participants in regional Australia and across the globe. This year alone we welcomed a whopping 7,875 participants to 286 workshops (online and in-person)! We are now ready to take bookings for 2021 and schools are invited to submit an Expression of Interest for a tailored program at the button below.

Two, four-day immerse creative and backstage bootcamps were held; one in Brisbane and the other in Texas, Queensland. Also, under the Top Up umbrella, the Launchpad Mentorship Program has been providing valuable guidance to emerging composers since 2015. The annual 12-month program was delivered to three young aspiring composers who are receiving hands-on industry training and mentorship.

We were also honoured to be part of an extensive tour through Musica Viva in Schools who brought our show Taking Shape (online and in-person) to schools in Central Queensland and Northern New South Wales classrooms. In 2020, we completed 36 performances of Taking Shape and look forward to performing for even more schools in 2021. If you haven’t already, get in touch with Musica Viva at the link below to get our show to your school next year!

NEW WORKS & TOURING

2020 also saw the World Premiere of a new signature work Drought Stories Texas, released online on 1 May and reflecting upon the current climate crisis. Composed by Topology principal, virtuoso musician/composer, John Babbage, the work highlights the precious and scarce resource, water, and aims to spark conversations on the environmental, social challenges and existential threat of climate disruption faced year in, year out by many regional Queensland communities. The stories of Texas, South West Queensland, are featured in this first installment of a seven-episodic multi-media project. Drought Stories delves creatively, using multi-media including documentary and audio clips, into the climatic hardships faced by individuals and regional Queensland towns from the long-form drought of the last five-years.

Drought Stories appears on our recently released 16th album, We Will Rise, which reflects upon the need for resilience, collective recovery and healing amidst world existential threats.

The We Will Rise Recovery Tour was part performance, part conversation, engaging audiences in Brisbane and nine regional Queensland communities (including Stanthorpe, Wondai, Bell, Longreach, Winton and Texas) who joined us for an evening of music designed to inspire community conversation, collective reflection and renewed strength.
