NEWS – MARCH 2021
From our Regional Manager – Melanie Doheny
Reflecting on the last 12 months it would be impossible not to make comments on what a challenging year 2020 was for everyone and 2021 has already tested the resilience of our regional communities. Some continue to live in what has been the worst drought in living memory while others are in the process of cleaning up after massive flooding.
I live in Blackbutt in the South Burnett. We were lucky enough to have some good rain but not too much. Unfortunately, the drought isn’t over for many, and planning life in general is challenging when the on, off button is constantly being flicked up and down.
However, our regional team is very busy making sure that we keep in contact and connected with our communities. Rockhampton and Mount Morgan are about to host a Regional Creative Bootcamp and John is busy with Top Up workshops in all parts of the state from Dalby to Longreach (and everywhere in between).
Our performance in Boonah of We Will Rise was postponed due to the recent flooding. The new date for the show is Saturday 21 August 2021 and more details on this event will be available in the coming weeks.
Until next time, please stay safe everyone and keep up to date with all our news on our Facebook page.

Texas State School Kickstart Their Newest Music Program
We were thrilled to be able to present Texas P-10 State School with a suite of instruments on 4 March 2021. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all who generously donated instruments to help launch the beginning of this brand new strings program. It was a day full of excitement and we can’t wait to see where music takes these wonderful young musicians next. There are 3 more schools also receiving instruments so keep the donations coming!
Creative Showcase with Topology (Longreach)
On 20 March 2021, we had six talented young people perform alongside Topology’s John Babbage, Grant Collins, and Mark Connors, at the Creative Showcase with Topology in Longreach. The sold out performance featured nine original compositions written by young musicians across Central West QLD. Thank you to all who were involved in this performance and all who attended this event. We can’t wait to be back in Longreach again in May 2021.
This project was made possible by the Australian Government through the Building Better Regions Fund, Arts Queensland, Tim Fairfax Family Foundation, FRRR, APRA AMCOS, Central West Music Makers, and the Longreach Arts and Crafts Centre.
