Who can apply? Launchpad provides mentorship to emerging composers (of any musical genre) who are in the first 5 years of their careers. Applicants must be 16+ years old and be a resident of Queensland or Northern Territory. Can songwriters apply? Absolutely! Launchpad is open to composers of any musical genre or style. Do I need to know how to read/write musical notation? No. Topology recognises that there are many different ways to compose music, so this skill is not mandatory. Applicants who wish to enhance their knowledge in notation can certainly do so through Launchpad. Do I have to come to Brisbane to participate in Launchpad? No. Much of the mentorship is conducted online through videoconferencing and email. Where appropriate, opportunities to travel to Brisbane or elsewhere to participate in a performance with Topology will be explored on a case to case basis. What is involved in the program? Who are the mentors? All successful applicants will be asked to nominate 3 creative goals at the start of the program, that they intend to achieve in 12 months. Mentees are then connected with mentors who are best suited to provide guidance and support in the accomplishment of these goals through Zoom sessions and email correspondence. Previous mentors include Cameron Patrick (film scoring), Isabella Gerometta (choral music), Samuel Dickenson (scores, notation), and of course Topology's co-Artistic Directors John Babbage and Robert Davidson. How do I apply? Fill in the application form. You will be asked to provide information about yourself and to submit support material in the form of samples of your creative work (mp3 recordings, videos, scores, etc) and letters of recommendation (pdf). How do I submit my Support Material and References? List what you are submitting and upload your support materials in the relevant spaces provided in the form. It is important to include your name in the submitted files. I don't have professional recordings or videos of my work. What can I submit? Professionaly produced materials are not required. You can send PDFs of scores and lyrics, midi exports, or even videos taken on a phone camera. Just make sure the 3 samples you choose to send represent your best work. Applications are opening soon!
